Theme: Untangling Unprecedented Uncertainty: What Emergency Management Leaders and Educators Need to Know

The National Training and Education Division will host the 23rd Annual Emergency Management Higher Education (HiEd) Symposium in partnership with the Emergency Management Institute (EMI) and the Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS) on June 8–10, 2021, via Zoom. The Symposium offers an opportunity to network, gain exposure to successful academic programs and research, and learn about new resources, teaching approaches, and methodologies. Sessions aim to connect practitioners, researchers, and educators. The Planning Group proposed four tracks: Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) in Emergency Management, Research Methodology and Integration, Policy and Administration of Emergency Management and Related Programs, and Innovative Curriculum and Pedagogy. There will also be a student poster contest. 

Call for Submissions: easychair.org/cfp/23rdEMHigherEdSymposium This year HiEd is outsourcing the call for submissions and peer review process to members of the academic community. The deadline to submit is March 15, 2021.

 Pre-Symposium Workshops Two half-day workshops are planned in advance of the Symposium:

 • Survey of Geographic Information Systems for Disaster Management Research, Teaching and Service | Kevin Mickey | May 21 | 12 to 4 p.m. EST

 • What to Teach in Emergency Management: Thoughts for Those New to Teaching the Discipline | Dr. David McEntire | May 28 | 12 to 4 p.m. EST
