Dr. Jeff Vance Martin

Dr. Martin is an interdisciplinary environmental social scientist whose research speaks to the human dimensions of environmental challenges, from wildlife to wildfire. They hold a PhD in geography from the University of California, Berkeley, and currently serve as a research social scientist with the USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Research Station in Arcata, as well as a lecturer at Cal Poly Humboldt. Broadly, their work sits at the intersection of environmental governance, critical political economy, and the cultural politics of nature, addressing contemporary debates over conservation in working landscapes via a political ecology and more-than-human geographical perspective. Current projects focus on questions of wildlife conflict and coexistence, wildfire and community impacts, and Indigenous land stewardship across the American West.
