About the Event
The annual Yosemite Hydroclimate Meeting is scheduled for Oct. 11-12, 2018. We will meet in the Garden Terrace Room again, adjacent to Yosemite Lodge, from 9:00 to 5:00 on the 11th and 8:00 to noon on the 12th, our old format of all day on Thursday and until noon on Friday. This conference is an excellent opportunity to describe your work in Yosemite National Park as well as the greater Sierra Nevada region. After the record-breaking WY2017 and the return to a drier WY2018, the suggested conference theme is "Persistent dry years leading to a new/drier normal and its implications?" Forest and aquatic ecosystems have adapted to changing climates before. How do we respond as researchers, ecosystem monitors, and managers?
The string of recent dry years has primed the forest ecosystem to burn more frequently, hotter, and more easily, and the abundance of dead trees is changing fire behavior and risks associated with firefighting. And recent winters have showed what warm winters look like – rain at higher elevations and more rain than snow for part of the winter, leading to shifts in storm flows and seasonal runoff patterns. All of these topics are worthy of presentations and discussion.
