The Chimney Fire burned through wildland areas and WUI areas in 2016. Now, a year later, join fire experts as they discuss the fire, the impacts, and the lessons learned from this event. The Chimney Fire burned 46,344 acres surrounding Lake Nacimiento in San Luis Obispo and Monterey Counties and destroyed 60 structures, including a bridge that severely impacted the community access to the area. It also threatened the famous Hearst Castle and other infrastructures including communication sites. During the fire, communities were evacuated via boats on Lake Nacimiento. The day long field tour will also discuss how previous fuel treatments impacted the fire spread. The day will end with a chance for further discussion and networking at a local brewing company.
This field trip is full but we hope to catch you at a future event!
