Wildfires are intensifying globally. Are they? How and what do we attribute this to?
Considering the astounding scale of wildfires in California in the US, wildfires in South Africa, Australia (and elsewhere), fires in the Amazon and the unusual fires in the Arctic tundra we ask: Is there a trend of intensification of wildfires globally and regionally? How can we apportion attribution among forest / fuel management challenges , more infrastructure built “in harm’s way”, increased human-mediated ignition and climate change drivers. Then – what should we expect in the near & long term future?
