If you have interest in California's iconic giant sequoias, then you may want to attend the 2018 Summer Meeting! "Giant Sequoias: Study on Forest Resiliency" will be the topic of our annual summer meeting of the Northern /Southern California Societies of American Foresters. The 2018 Summer meeting will be held at Ironstone Vineyards, Murphys, CA and Calaveras Big Trees State Park, Arnold, CA. We look forward to an excellent dialog about forest resiliency with a focus on giant sequoias with members of the California forestry and forest conservation community.
Thursday will start off with the joint NorCal/SoCal Executive Committee (EC) meeting. The EC meeting be held at the Murphys Suites Hotel, 134 E. Highway 4, Murphys.
The meeting is open to all interested individuals.
The "Giant Sequoias: Study on Forest Resiliency" meeting will officially begin on Thursday evening at Ironstone Vineyards, Murphys, CA with a wonderful evening program, including a social hour and silent action. The evening with continue with a Buffet Dinner with guest speakers: Dave Lewis, SAF President and Russell Henly, Assistant Secretary, Resource Management, CA Natural Resources Agency.
Friday will be our field day at Calaveras Big Trees State Park. The presentations will include:
Dendrochronology Study of the Tunnel Tree (a unique chance to view cross sections)
Calaveras Big Trees State Park Restoration Plan
Sierra Pacific's Giant Sequoia Genetic Conservation Program
Conserving Genetic Diversity of Giant Sequoia Groves to Manage Climate Change/Wildfire
Forest Resilience through Restoration and Management
Genomic Methods to Understand Demography, Population History, and Adaptive Potential of Giant Sequoia.
Come early and enjoy the many summer outdoor activities in the greater Murphys area!
